Dance Camps


School’s out for summer but dance is in session!  We are excited to offer three separate summer dance sessions with classes during the morning and afternoon hours to help keep your dancers moving!  Read below to see all that we have to offer– and, trust us, we’ve got something for everyone!  Be sure to pay attention to the start and end dates as they vary depending on the class!  Not able to make one of our morning or afternoon classes?  No problem!  Click on the class tabs above to view our evening offerings! Tippy Toes, Twinkle Toes, Princess Camp

Little ones are free to explore the art of dance in these four-day, fun-filled classes designed to engage active minds and bodies!  Dancers will learn the fundamentals of ballet and jazz as they learn a short combination to bright, upbeat music.  Princess Camp will have a special royal theme and dancers are encouraged to wear their favorite princess dress! A showcase will be held at the end of the final day of class so dancers can show off their new skills!

Acro:  Circus Dreams 

Does your dancer have big dreams of the big top?  Then have we got a class for you!  Ideal for beginning to intermediate acro enthusiasts, dancers will practice safe stretching to improve flexibility, as well as tumbling skills such as somersaults, cartwheels, front and back walkovers, and more!  Since this is one of our extended morning sessions, please bring a peanut-free snack and water as there will be a short break to allow dancers to refuel.  A showcase will be held at the end of the week so dancers can show off their new tricks!

Acro Mastery Advanced Class

Created for the experienced student as well as for teachers who are looking to further their training in advanced tumbling, contortions, and acro tricks.  Teachers will also gain valuable insight on acro instruction so that they can help train their students in a safe and effective manner.

Acro:  Back Handspring and Aerial 

This class is designed for more experienced students who would like to master their back handsprings and aerials.  Students must have skilled back walkover and cartwheel techniques.

Beginning Tumbling 

Do you have a child interested in tumbling?  Perfect for beginners, this special extended class will introduce dancers to safe stretching practices and tumbling basics such as somersaults, cartwheels, and back bends.  Since this is one of our extended morning sessions, please bring a peanut-free snack and water as there will be a short break to allow dancers to refuel.  A showcase will be held at the end of the week so dancers can show off their new tricks!

Ballet and Pointe 

With its focus on proper posture and form, ballet is an excellent foundation to build your dancer’s education upon, no matter which style of dance they pursue.  Classes consist of barre work, combinations, choreography, and leaps and turns as well as education in ballet terminology.  More advanced levels will require permission.  Pointe class is for experienced dancers who have begun training en pointe and will require pointe shoes.

Progressing Ballet Technique

This is a special strengthening class designed to assist ballet dancers.  Students will utilize yoga balls and stretching bands for innovative exercises that target the muscles needed to improve turnout and technique.  Ballet Bands will be required for this class but yoga balls will be available for dancers.

Creating Choreography 

This class is a perfect fit for more experienced dancers who have an interest in crafting their own routines.  Dancers will explore movement concepts in a variety of genres in a nurturing and collaborative environment.  At the end of the week, there will be a showcase where dancers can perform their own creations!

Hip Hop Camp

Get movin’ and groovin’ with hip hop this summer at NWDA!  Whether you’re hitting it hard or playing it smooth, you’ll be pushing yourself with fun and challenging choreography!

Musical Theater 

A character-based dance form, Musical Theater combines the fun and fast-paced elements of jazz dance with the emotion and exuberance of acting. Emphasis will be placed not only on technique but also on the artistry of performance.

Leaps and Turns 

This class is incredibly beneficial to students no matter which style of dance they pursue. Students will be introduced to a variety of skills including split and straddle leaps as well as pirouette, chaines, fouette and coupe turns.

Flex/Extension/Balance

Is your dancer looking to take their technique to the next level? Designed to do just that, this class will focus on stretches and exercises to improve flexion and extension as well as core exercises to help with balance. Get strong this summer at NWDA!

Mini Tech I

Designed for young dancers who are ready for a challenge, this class will focus on strengthening and stretching in the first hour with the second hour devoted to acro. Students will learn exercises targeting key muscle groups to aid in balance and flexibility during the first hour and will practice tumbling skills such as somersaults, cartwheels, back bends, chest stands, and walkovers during the second hour.

Mini Tech II

This class is ideal for young dancers who are ready to advance and will focus on strengthening and stretching in the first hour with the second hour devoted to ballet. Students will learn exercises targeting key muscle groups to aid in balance and flexibility during the first hour and will focus on ballet practice for the second hour, including barre work and choreography.

Class Attire: Please have students’ hair pulled back and secure. Clothing options include leotard with tights, tank top, camisole, leggings, or dance shorts. Ballet skirts and tutus are optional.  Feet must be bare for acro classes.  Pink ballet slippers with elastic securely sewn are recommended for Tippy Toes and required for Ballet classes.  Ballet classes will also require that students wear a black leotard with pink tights and pointe shoes will be required for pointe class.  Hip Hop dancers may wear comfortable clothes with stretch including t-shirts, tank tops, leggings, sweats, or sweatshirts but, please, no midriff-baring shirts.  Clean sneakers will also be needed for hip hop.

Acro

 Acro

Acro is a thrilling form of dance where strength, flexibility, and balance are highlighted with daring tumbling and carefully controlled contortions. With a strong emphasis on increasing flexibility through safe stretching practices and developing strength over time, students will experience a challenging yet incredibly rewarding class.

Beginning Acro Dancers will be educated on proper stretching technique and early tumbling skills such as somersaults, cartwheels, backbends, and beginning chest stands will be introduced.

Beginning/Intermediate Acro (Teacher Permission Required) Upon successful progression from Beginning Acro, students will continue their practice of proper stretching technique and further develop their tumbling skills. Students may work on front and back walkovers, back handsprings, aerials, and chest and elbow stands as well as continue to master previously introduced skills.

Intermediate/Advanced Acro (Teacher Permission Required) Open to those students who have graduated from Beginning/Intermediate Acro, Intermediate/Advanced Acro continues to build upon previously learned skills. Dancers will continue in their safe stretching practices to maintain and increase flexibility which will assist them in their tumbling. Previously introduced skills will be refined and more challenging tumbling introduced such as back tucks and standing aerials.

Acro Class Attire To help ensure the safety of the dancer, appropriate attire for acro is required. Options include leotard, tank top, camisole, fitted t-shirt, dance shorts, and leggings. Feet must be bare and hair must be pulled back.

Ballet

Ballet

Arguably the most recognizable form of dance, ballet is a highly technical art form steeped in rich history and tradition, requiring years of dedicated study and practice to master. With its focus on proper posture and form, ballet is an excellent foundation to build your dancer’s education upon, no matter which style of dance they pursue. NWDA offers ballet classes for all levels, from beginning to advanced students, taught by patient and experienced instructors intent on helping your dancer reach their full potential.

Ballet/Tap This class is a perfect introduction to two prominent dance styles, allowing dancers to experience the best of both worlds. Designed to keep active minds both entertained and focused while instilling the basics of both styles, dancers will work on developing coordination, rhythm, and timing in a fun and friendly environment.

Beginning/Level 1 Ballet This class provides the perfect introduction to the fundamentals of ballet technique including barre work, combinations, and choreography.

Ballet 1/2 This class offers a more formal approach with continued emphasis on proper technique and further introduction of ballet terminology. Students will experience more challenging barre work, combinations, and choreography.

Ballet 2/3 (Teacher Permission Required) Upon graduation from Ballet 1/2, this class continues to emphasize the elements introduced previously. More complex barre work, combinations, and choreography will be introduced as well as leaps and turns.

Pointe (Teacher Permission Required) This class offers continued instruction in proper pointe technique.

Ballet and Ballet/Tap Class Attire Students should dress appropriately for ballet in black leotards with pink tights; hair must be in a bun. Pink ballet slippers are required with elastic securely sewn. Ballet slippers are available for purchase at the studio for your convenience but can also be purchased at Payless Shoes, Petticoat Junction, or through various dancewear websites.

Combo

Preschool/Kinder Combos

Our combo classes are an excellent introduction to dance in a classroom setting for little ones. Students will get to experience basic ballet and jazz steps as well as some early tumbling with lessons designed to keep their attention in a fun and friendly atmosphere. We focus on creative movement which builds on the necessary gross motor skills needed for primary dance instruction. We use fun, upbeat music to learn basic skills like hopping, skipping, jumping, galloping, and balance coordination. Preschool Combo is designed for students ages 3-4 while Kinder Combo is open to students ages 4-6.

Class Attire
Please have students’ hair pulled back and secure. Clothing options include leotard with tights, tank top, camisole, leggings, and dance shorts. Ballet skirts and tutus are optional. Pink ballet slippers are required with elastic securely sewn. Ballet slippers are available for purchase at the studio for your convenience but can also be purchased at Payless Shoes, Petticoat Junction, or through various dancewear websites. Please no slipper-style ballet shoes as these present a safety hazard.

Hip Hop

Hip Hop

Fun, funky, and full of flavor, hip hop street dance has exploded in popularity and innovation with new styles popping up all of the time. This dynamic, fast-paced, and distinct style of dance is both a great time and a great workout. An excellent way to improve stamina, coordination, memory, and performance skills and a fantastic outlet for the dancer’s own personal style. NWDA offers class options for several age ranges and experience levels taught by passionate instructors intent on challenging dancers to leave it all on the dance floor.

Hip Hop Class Attire
Appropriate class attire is required, options include sweats, leggings, shorts, tanks, camisoles, fitted t-shirts, and sneakers. No midriff baring shirts please. Hair must be pulled back.

Jazz & Jazz Funk

Jazz

An energetic genre brimming with character, jazz has been entertaining audiences for years. Since jazz encompasses so many different styles, there’s always something new to pique your dancer’s interest and, with its strong focus on rhythm, this class provides a valuable opportunity for students to explore and develop musicality. Students will be educated on safe stretching methods and will practice basic leaps and turns as well as combinations and other elements of jazz technique.

Jazz Funk

Combining elements of jazz and hip hop, jazz funk is a strong, sassy and fierce dance style designed to teach dancers to take the stage by storm.  Students will stretch their bodies and their confidence as they develop their rhythm and musicality and find their inner diva.  Bring out your bold side in this fun and funky dance class!

Class Attire
Jazz shoes, paws, or pirouette shoes are required for this class as well as appropriate class attire. Clothing options include leotard, tank top, camisole, fitted t-shirt, dancer shorts, and leggings.  Hair must be pulled back.

Leaps and Turns

Leaps and Turns

Designed to focus solely on dance technique as there is no recital associated, this series of classes is incredibly beneficial to students no matter which style of dance they pursue. Students will be introduced to a variety of skills including split and straddle leaps as well as pirouette, chaines, fouette and coupe turns throughout the progression of these classes. Petite Leaps and Turns introduces the basic elements while Junior and Teen/Senior Leaps and Turns classes provide increasing levels of difficulty, offering more challenging combinations and building upon rotations.

Leaps and Turns Class Attire Class attire may consist of leotard, tank top, camisole, fitted t-shirt, dancer shorts, and leggings. Hair must be pulled back. Paws and jazz shoes are required and available to purchase at the studio for your convenience. Jazz shoes may also be found at Payless Shoes while paws and jazz shoes can both be found online through various dancewear websites.

Lyrical

Lyrical

A highly expressive style of dance, lyrical combines ballet and technical aspects of jazz and contemporary to give us a lovely, fluid, often emotional artform. Students are encouraged to connect with the music and often have opportunities to freestyle dance in an effort to support this. Proper stretching technique will be introduced and students will practice combinations as well as basic leaps and turns.

Class Attire
Jazz shoes, paws, or pirouette shoes are required for this class as well as appropriate class attire. Clothing options include leotard, tank top, camisole, fitted t-shirt, dancer shorts, and leggings.  Hair must be pulled back.
